Cabinet of Curiosities, Hatchlands

A tour of the rare Cobbe Museum or Cabinet of Curiosities. Begun in the 1730s, it was known in the 18th century as the ‘Ark’ as was the Ashmolean Tradescant collection. It contains objects from all of the continents of the world excepting Antarctica, and some Giant Irish deer fossil antlers perhaps between 10,000 and 50,000 years old.

The tour will be given by Arthur MacGregor, formerly a curator at the Ashmolean Museum and editor of The Cobbe Cabinet of Curiosities: An Anglo-Irish Country House Museum comprehensive catalogue, published by Yale University Press in 2015.

Coffee and biscuits, served in the Dining Room on arrival, are included in the ticket price.
