Students from the Royal College of Music Historical Performance Department present a charming and galant programme of music for classical trio (flute, cello and fortepiano) exploring repertoire by Haydn, Pleyel and the lesser known but equally impressive Leopold Kozeluch.

THE INSTRUMENT

Viennese Grand Piano by circle of Johann Andreas Stein, Vienna, C.1790
Johann Andreas Stein of Augsburg invented a type of piano that dominated Viennese instrument building from the 1780s for more than half a century. His daughter Nannette, who married Andreas Streicher, became one of Vienna’s most important figures and this instrument bears close resemblance to the diagrams in a manual she published in 1801. Mozart played and recommended Stein’s instruments.
