Four hundred years of family portraits can be seen at Hatchlands. Among the earliest is the celebrated portrait of Shakespeare’s patron, the 3rd Earl of Southampton. A group of portraits of members of Charles II’s court is of particular interest, including a portrait of the king’s daughter with her mother, the beautiful Duchess of Cleveland. Further treasures are portraits by Gainsborough, Zoffany, Marie-Antoinette’s court painter Mosnier and a miniature of an Indian begum princess.
Coffee and biscuits on arrival, in the Dining Room, are included in the ticket price.
