Ashley Solomon explores some of the more virtuosic compositions for the baroque flute by Telemann in this recital with harpsichordist Pawel Siwczak. Following his recent CD of Telemann’s solo flute Fantasias he will perform several of these works as preludes to the more substantial Methodical Sonatas, composed around the same time. These sonatas include Telemann’s own ornaments in the opening movement, giving us a unique insight into the style and method of ornamenting in the 18th century. Solomon is director and co-founder of the early music group, Florilegium, and is Chair and Head of Historical Performance at RCM, since 1994. He has Honorary Membership of RCM and is a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Music.
Pawel Siwczak is a historical keyboard specialist, winner of the 8th Broadwood Harpsichord Competition at Fenton House, the Sir Anthony Lewis Memorial Prize and the Minister of Culture of Poland award. He combines a solo concert career with experience as a chamber musician and continuo player, and conducts from the harpsichord. Siwczak teaches at the Royal Academy of Music.
