Vaughan Williams Fauré – Romance and Pastorale (1915)
Rondalla Aragonesa – Violin Sonata No. 2, Op. 108

Continuing the series they began in 2014, Robert Gibbs and Oliver Davies pay further tribute to Granados, whose death in March 1916 stands as one of the most shocking musical losses of the war. Fauré’s transcendent second sonata, begun a few months later, initiated the series of chamber works which formed his personal response to the conflict: it is dedicated to Queen Elisabeth of the Belgians and was intended for the great Belgian violinist Eugène Ysäye.

Oliver Davies will be playing the grand piano by Steinway, New York, c. 1864
